A new panelled wall invited new work, small A4 prints, but what of? With little or no time to spare it became a race to piece together new work from fragments of work underway, or almost finished, the London pubs and ravens executed originally with very different intentions came together with meadow grasses and then a final touch to link them to the ‘Amber Gambler’, obvious really.

‘Jacks’ - the red heart and black spades, a touch under A4 and float mounted.

Cob houses live, breath and it would seem need constant attention, but make the most wonderful of homes, however some jobs you can only put off for so long, it’ll some be ten years since shortly after my 50th we moved in, and in June I’ll be celebrating my 60th here, with more renovations afoot. However, what has this to do with Ravens and the ‘Amber Gambler’, well, last easter, 2024, we finally decided to begin the awful task of re-lime plastering the inglenook, building a new ‘de-coupled’ soundproof wall betwixt us and the next cottage, new panelling and laying a wooden floor, a new decor that cried out for new artworks, in particular for a small space above the sofa – images here on my Instagram account https://www.instagram.com/p/DD4fp84o0ya/?img_index=1.

The work seemed to drag and swallow up every free moment, 6 weeks of leave and almost every weekend, but in the process trips were taken to galleries across the South West, Exeter, Dartmouth, for example, and finally choices were made, new acquisitions made such as Hares in Meadow Cranesbill from 2022 by Martin Truefitt-Baker (https://www.truefitt-baker.co.uk) but this still left a hole, a wall crying out for 2 new pieces, and this is where the ‘Jacks’ come in.
